Typically, a battery will keep a hearing aid powered for three to ten days before it needs replacing, depending on usage and the hearing aid style.

You may hear two or three* beeps when it is time to change the battery. This pre-warning will be repeated at moderate intervals until the battery runs out. This may happen shortly after the pre-warning or within the next couple of hours.

You may hear four beeps; this will be the last warning before the hearing aid turns off.

Once you have inserted a fresh battery the hearing aid will start up as soon as the battery drawer is closed. Jingle plays during start-up.

When not in use, turn your hearing aid off by opening the battery drawer. This way you save the battery.

A worn-out battery should be removed immediately and disposed of according to local regulations. Remember that batteries and hearing aids should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

*Please note if you have a hearing aid with Bluetooth, this will be shut down and it is not possible to use wireless accessories.

Note: The batteries need to be replaced more often if you are streaming audio or music to your hearing aids.

How to

insert the battery in behind-the-ear hearing aids

  • Remove

    Fully open the battery drawer. Remove the battery.

  • Uncover

    Remove the sticky label from the + side of the new battery.

  • Insert

    Insert the new battery into the battery drawer. Make sure the + side faces up.

  • Close

    Close the battery drawer. The instrument will play a jingle through the earpiece. Hold the earpiece close to your ear to hear the jingle.

Tip: The MultiTool can be used for battery change. Use the magnetic end to remove and insert batteries. The MultiTool is provided by your hearing care professional.

If there is any moisture on the battery surface, it should be wiped off before use. When you change the battery, wait 2 minutes so that the battery can draw air, to make sure to function optimally.

Hearing aid batteries

There are four sizes of zinc air batteries used in hearing aids, and each has its own colour code on the battery package. The battery size you should use is given in the hearing aid’s instructions for use.

Contact a hearing care professional to find out how to get the right batteries for your hearing aids. At the hearing centre you can also get the MultiTool, which makes it easy to handle the batteries as well as clean the hearing aids.

How to test your battery

If your hearing aids turn off, you may wish to check if the battery has run out. There are two common ways to check this:

With a battery tester
Place the battery on the battery tester surface. Ensure that the positive (+) marking is facing upwards. Slide the battery in the direction of the arrow and read the result on the display.

Without a battery tester
Insert the battery in the hearing aid and close the battery door. Close your hand around the hearing aid and hold it up to your ear and listen for the jingle. If you can hear the jingle, the battery is functioning.

Battery tip
To make sure the hearing aid is always working, bring spare batteries with you or replace battery before leaving your home.
